Terms of Service

Effective Date: August 9, 2026
Last Updated: August 9, 2026

Welcome to Maat K12. These Terms of Service and Enrollment Terms & Conditions ("Terms") govern use of the Maat K12 website, online educational platform, curriculum, tutoring, volunteer-supported services, student services, assessments, communications, and related programs. By accessing Maat K12, creating an account, enrolling or registering a child, submitting an enrollment form, participating in a Maat K12 program, or using our educational services, the parent or legal guardian acknowledges that they have read, understood, and agreed to these Terms.

1. Maat K12 Educational Model

Maat K12 provides virtual educational programs, curriculum resources, academic support, tutoring, assessments, enrichment activities, and other online educational services for school-age students.

Maat K12 may operate as an online private-school educational program in jurisdictions where Maat K12 has established the required legal status, filings, authorization, or other applicable requirements.

For students located in jurisdictions where Maat K12 does not operate as the student's legally recognized private school, Maat K12's services are provided as a homeschool curriculum, educational-support, tutoring, and/or online learning platform.

Registration with or use of Maat K12 does not by itself guarantee that a student satisfies the compulsory-attendance, private-school, homeschool, recordkeeping, testing, curriculum, notification, registration, or other educational requirements of the student's state, county, city, school district, country, or other jurisdiction.

2. Parent and Guardian Legal Responsibility

Education and homeschool laws vary substantially by jurisdiction. The parent or legal guardian is responsible for determining and complying with all laws, regulations, rules, filing requirements, attendance requirements, instructional requirements, testing requirements, recordkeeping requirements, compulsory-education requirements, and homeschool or private-school requirements applicable to their child.

Parents and guardians are responsible for contacting their state education agency, local school district, homeschool authority, legal professional, or other appropriate governmental authority when necessary to determine the requirements that apply to their child.

Maat K12 does not provide legal advice and does not guarantee that participation in a Maat K12 program alone satisfies every educational requirement applicable in every jurisdiction.

3. Parent/Guardian Responsibility for the Child

Maat K12 is an online educational platform. It is not a childcare, daycare, babysitting, custodial-care, or in-person supervision provider unless Maat K12 expressly enters into a separate written agreement stating otherwise.

Parents and legal guardians remain responsible for the care, custody, supervision, safety, welfare, conduct, attendance, and day-to-day educational participation of their children while using Maat K12.

A parent or another responsible adult should provide whatever supervision is appropriate considering the child's age, maturity, needs, circumstances, and applicable law.

Participation in a Zoom meeting, tutoring session, online classroom, volunteer activity, assessment, or other Maat K12 service does not transfer custody or supervisory responsibility for the child to Maat K12, its employees, teachers, contractors, or volunteers.

4. Attendance and Academic Participation

Parents and guardians are responsible for ensuring their students participate in educational activities and satisfy applicable attendance requirements. Families are responsible for maintaining any additional attendance documentation required by their jurisdiction.

Maat K12 may maintain internal attendance, assessment, academic-progress, and participation records as part of its services. The existence of these records does not relieve a parent or guardian of any independent recordkeeping obligation imposed by applicable law.

5. Teachers and Instruction

Teachers, instructors, tutors, educational professionals, and volunteers may provide services through Maat K12. Availability of teachers and specific educational services may vary according to location, grade, subject, program, staffing, enrollment, scheduling, and applicable law.

Maat K12 does not represent that every student in every jurisdiction will receive the same form of instruction or that Maat K12 operates under identical legal classifications in every state.

6. Volunteer Tutors and Educational Volunteers

Maat K12 uses volunteers as part of its educational and nonprofit programs. Volunteers may assist with reading and literacy support; tutoring and homework assistance; math and academic support; English-language conversation and practice; STEM and coding activities; career-readiness activities; curriculum and educational-content support; administrative or technology assistance; and other approved educational and nonprofit activities.

Unless expressly stated otherwise, volunteers are not employees of Maat K12 and should not be assumed to be licensed teachers, credentialed educators, therapists, counselors, medical professionals, or other licensed professionals.

Volunteer services are intended to supplement educational opportunities and should not be considered a substitute for professional services when such services are required. Parents and guardians remain responsible for deciding whether a volunteer-supported activity is appropriate for their child.

7. Volunteer Grant and Corporate Giving Programs

Some Maat K12 volunteers may participate through employer-sponsored volunteer programs, Volunteer Time Off (VTO), Dollars for Doers, volunteer grants, matching gifts, workplace giving, or similar corporate programs.

Participation in a Maat K12 volunteer opportunity does not guarantee that a volunteer will qualify for any employer benefit, payment, VTO, volunteer grant, matching gift, charitable contribution, or other corporate incentive.

Each employer establishes its own eligibility criteria, hour requirements, documentation standards, deadlines, grant amounts, and approval process. Maat K12 may verify legitimately completed volunteer service but will not knowingly verify inaccurate, incomplete, inflated, or unperformed volunteer hours.

8. Nondiscrimination and Equal Opportunity Policy

Maat K12 is committed to maintaining an educational and organizational environment that promotes dignity, respect, equal opportunity, and inclusion.

To the extent required by applicable law, Maat K12 does not unlawfully discriminate in its educational programs, admissions, volunteer opportunities, employment practices, services, or activities on the basis of race, color, national origin, ancestry, ethnicity, religion, sex, disability, age, or any other status protected by applicable federal, state, or local law.

Maat K12 also prohibits unlawful harassment, retaliation, intimidation, and discriminatory conduct within its programs and online environments. This policy applies, as legally applicable, to students, families, volunteers, employees, contractors, instructors, applicants, program participants, and visitors.

Questions or complaints concerning discrimination may be submitted to Maat K12 using the contact information provided below. Maat K12 will review complaints and take appropriate action consistent with applicable law and organizational policies.

9. Student and Family Conduct

Students, parents, guardians, volunteers, and other participants must behave respectfully when using Maat K12 platforms and services. Prohibited conduct includes harassment, bullying, threats, discrimination, inappropriate sexual conduct, impersonation, unauthorized recording, sharing another person's private information, academic dishonesty, disruption of instruction, misuse of technology, and conduct that threatens the safety or wellbeing of another participant.

Maat K12 may restrict, suspend, or terminate access when necessary to protect students, families, volunteers, staff, or the integrity of its programs.

10. Online Safety and Technology

Families are responsible for providing appropriate devices, internet connectivity, software, and adult supervision necessary for participation.

Maat K12 is not responsible for internet outages, device failures, third-party platform interruptions, software incompatibility, cybersecurity incidents outside Maat K12's reasonable control, or disruptions caused by a family's equipment or internet provider. Parents should supervise their child's internet activity and establish appropriate household internet-safety practices.

11. Assessments, Tutoring and Additional Services

Maat K12 may offer assessments, tutoring, educational materials, special programs, and other optional or required services. Any applicable fees, schedules, eligibility requirements, refund terms, or participation requirements will be disclosed through the applicable program materials, enrollment documentation, invoice, or website.

Tutoring may be provided by staff, contractors, qualified instructors, or approved volunteers depending upon the particular program.

12. No Guarantee of Academic Results

Maat K12 provides educational resources and support but cannot guarantee any particular academic result, grade, test score, promotion, graduation outcome, college admission, employment result, or educational achievement. Student outcomes depend on numerous factors, including participation, attendance, effort, parent involvement, instructional circumstances, and individual student needs.

13. Privacy and Student Information

Maat K12 may collect information necessary to provide educational and administrative services, including parent/guardian contact information, student enrollment information, academic information, assessments, attendance information, student work, and technical information associated with use of the website or educational platforms.

Maat K12 does not sell student personal information. Information may be disclosed to authorized service providers, instructors, volunteers, contractors, educational partners, or governmental authorities when reasonably necessary to provide services or when required or permitted by applicable law. Parents and guardians may contact Maat K12 regarding access to or correction of student records.

14. Recording of Online Sessions

Maat K12 may use videoconferencing and other interactive technologies for educational purposes. Sessions will not be recorded by Maat K12 unless recording is permitted by applicable law and appropriate notice or consent has been obtained where required.

Students, parents, volunteers, and other participants may not independently record, photograph, livestream, distribute, or publish another participant's image, voice, student work, personal information, or online session without authorization.

15. Intellectual Property

Maat K12 curriculum, logos, graphics, worksheets, instructional materials, videos, presentations, website content, training materials, and other original content are owned by Maat K12 or used with authorization from their respective owners.

Enrollment or participation provides a limited right to use educational materials for the student's authorized educational purposes. Materials may not be commercially reproduced, resold, publicly distributed, republished, or used to falsely represent affiliation with Maat K12 without permission.

16. Third-Party Platforms

Maat K12 may use third-party educational, communication, assessment, video, or technology platforms. Use of those services may also be governed by the third party's terms and privacy policies. Maat K12 is not responsible for actions or service interruptions occurring solely within independently operated third-party platforms.

17. Assumption of Responsibility

By enrolling a child or participating in Maat K12 services, the parent or legal guardian acknowledges the nature of online education and accepts responsibility for supervising the student's participation, complying with applicable educational laws, maintaining appropriate technology, and determining whether particular activities and services are suitable for the child.

18. Release, Limitation of Liability and Hold Harmless

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, the parent or guardian agrees that Maat K12 and its directors, officers, employees, instructors, volunteers, contractors, representatives, and affiliated programs will not be liable for losses or damages resulting solely from a parent's failure to comply with homeschool, compulsory-attendance, private-school, or other educational laws; failure to provide adequate supervision of a child; internet, technology, equipment, or third-party platform failures; unauthorized actions taken by students or other users; reliance upon volunteer educational assistance as professional or licensed advice; or circumstances outside Maat K12's reasonable control.

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, parents and guardians agree to release, defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Maat K12 and its directors, officers, employees, volunteers, instructors, contractors, and representatives from claims, liabilities, damages, losses, or expenses arising from the parent's or student's violation of these Terms, violation of applicable law, misuse of Maat K12 services, or acts or omissions for which the parent or student is legally responsible.

Nothing in these Terms is intended to waive a right that cannot lawfully be waived, exclude liability that cannot legally be excluded, or limit protections afforded to a student or parent under applicable law.

19. No Legal, Medical or Professional Advice

Educational information provided by Maat K12 is not legal, medical, psychological, therapeutic, financial, or other licensed professional advice. Families requiring such services should consult an appropriately qualified professional.

20. Changes to Programs

Maat K12 may modify curriculum, schedules, platforms, instructors, volunteers, programs, policies, assessments, services, fees, or other operational matters. Material changes affecting enrolled families may be communicated through the website, email, parent portal, or other reasonable means.

21. Suspension or Termination

Maat K12 may suspend or terminate access to services when reasonably necessary because of misconduct, safety concerns, academic dishonesty, harassment, misuse of technology, failure to satisfy applicable program requirements, nonpayment of applicable fees, or material violation of these Terms. Where appropriate, Maat K12 may first contact the parent or guardian and provide an opportunity to address the issue.

22. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, except where another jurisdiction's laws necessarily apply to a student's homeschool, compulsory-education, consumer, privacy, or other non-waivable legal rights.

Families residing outside California remain responsible for determining and complying with the educational requirements applicable where the student resides.

23. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is determined to be unlawful, invalid, or unenforceable, that provision will be enforced to the maximum extent permitted by law or severed as necessary. The remaining provisions will continue in effect.

24. Entire Agreement

These Terms, together with applicable enrollment forms, privacy notices, program policies, consent forms, and written agreements issued by Maat K12, constitute the applicable agreement concerning use of Maat K12 services.

25. Changes to These Terms

Maat K12 may revise these Terms periodically to reflect changes in programs, operations, technology, or applicable law. The most recent version will be published on the Maat K12 website with its updated effective date. Continued use of Maat K12 after revised Terms become effective constitutes acceptance to the extent permitted by law.
