Our Commitment To Privacy

At MAAT K12, protecting the information and safety of students, families, volunteers, staff, and website visitors is a responsibility we take seriously. This Privacy Policy explains the categories of information our school may handle, why we may use it, and how families can raise privacy questions. MAAT K12 serves Pre-Kindergarten through 12th grade and uses online tools to deliver educational services.

1. Information We Collect

Parent and guardian information may include names, contact details, addresses, emergency contacts, account credentials, and communications. Student information may include names, birth dates, grade levels, enrollment records, educational history, coursework, attendance, and academic progress. Depending on the service, we may also collect assessment results, accessibility information, billing or scholarship documents, volunteer records, and security or technical information such as login events, device identifiers, or IP addresses. Sensitive information should be collected only when necessary and authorized.

2. How Information Is Collected

Information may be received through website forms, parent and student registration, enrollment documents, classroom activities, assessments, scholarship applications, volunteer registration, school communications, and approved digital platforms. In appropriate cases it may also come from a parent, guardian, previous school, authorized service provider, or other lawful source.

3. How Information Is Used

Information may be processed to administer enrollment, provide instruction, support students, monitor academic progress, communicate with families, maintain records, administer scholarships, coordinate volunteers, process permitted payments, protect accounts, improve functionality, and meet applicable legal obligations. Collection and use should be limited to legitimate and disclosed purposes.

4. Children'S Privacy

Our school serves children, including those younger than 13. Where the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) applies, required notices and appropriate verifiable parental consent must be obtained unless an applicable exception or valid educational-consent mechanism applies. Students should not submit sensitive personal information through public forms without proper guardian involvement. Technical and administrative controls must match the actual age and consent workflow used by the school.

5. Parent And Guardian Requests

Subject to verification, applicable law, and record-retention duties, parents or guardians may seek access to information about their child, request corrections, ask about disclosure and processing practices, or seek deletion or withdrawal of consent where appropriate. Withdrawal of consent may limit access to services that cannot function without the relevant information.

6. Educational Records

MAAT K12 may maintain records necessary for student instruction, assessments, participation, and school operations. Access should be restricted to authorized personnel with appropriate reasons to view the information. Record requests are handled under applicable law and school policies.

7. Sharing And Disclosure

Information may be disclosed to authorized educators, contractors, service providers, scholarship administrators, or authorities as permitted or required for school operations and legal compliance. Third parties should receive only information needed for a legitimate purpose, with appropriate contracts and safeguards where required.

8. Next Gen Scholarship Information

The Next Gen Scholarship Program offers up to 300 full-tuition awards per academic year. Application information may include student identity, enrollment data, eligibility information, and supporting records. Information provided for scholarship review should be used for authorized eligibility review, award processing, and administration. Sharing with Next Gen Curriculum Consultancy must be disclosed and appropriately authorized under applicable law. Only necessary information should be transmitted.

9. Volunteer Privacy

Volunteer records may include contact information, experience, training, approved assignments, documented service hours, and verification requests. Information may be used to manage onboarding and volunteer participation and, when authorized, to verify legitimate activity to employers or other approved recipients. False or unperformed hours will not be certified.

10. Educational Technology Providers

MAAT K12 may use a learning-management system, video meetings, assessment applications, parent portals, content tools, and volunteer services. Some services are run by independent providers under their own policies. The school should publish or make available the relevant vendor details and ensure appropriate oversight, contractual limitations, and student-data protections where required.

11. Classroom Video, Audio, And Recordings

Virtual educational activities may involve student images, voices, names, communications, or schoolwork. Recordings must follow applicable notice and consent rules. Identifiable student photos, videos, or personal details should not be used in public promotional materials without valid authorization. Users may not record or redistribute others' information without school authorization.

12. Cookies, Analytics, And Similar Tools

The website or related platforms may use functional cookies and other technologies for account access, security, performance, and user experience. Any optional analytics, marketing pixels, targeted advertising, and third-party tracking must be accurately identified and assessed for children's privacy compliance.

13. Information Security

MAAT K12 should maintain security safeguards appropriate to the information handled, including role-based access, protection of credentials, controls for privileged users, secure storage and transmission where applicable, and procedures for responding to suspected unauthorized access. No online system can guarantee perfect security. Users should report suspected account misuse promptly.

14. Retention And Deletion

Personal information should be retained only as long as needed for school operations, educational records, legal duties, or other disclosed legitimate purposes. Retention schedules must be defined for student, parent, scholarship, volunteer, communications, assessment, and platform records. When data is no longer needed, appropriate secure disposal or de-identification procedures should be followed. COPPA-specific retention and deletion requirements must be respected where applicable.

15. Children'S Information And Advertising

Student information must not be treated as a commercial advertising database. MAAT K12 should not use or disclose children's information for behavioral advertising in violation of applicable law. The use of public-site advertising, pixels, analytics, or promotional services must be assessed separately from school instructional services.

16. Communications

MAAT K12 may send necessary educational, enrollment, account, safety, and administrative communications. Optional newsletters or marketing messages should offer an appropriate unsubscribe mechanism. Essential program notices may continue when necessary for legitimate operations or compliance.

17. California Privacy Rights

California residents may have rights under applicable privacy laws depending on the school's legal structure and the type of data processing. The school will evaluate verified requests for access, correction, deletion, and other applicable rights as required by law.

18. External Links

The website may link to third-party educational platforms, event registration services, and other resources. External sites may have their own data practices, terms, and privacy notices. Users should review those notices before submitting information.

19. Policy Changes

MAAT K12 may revise this Privacy Policy when practices, services, technology, or legal requirements change. Revisions should identify the effective date, and additional notice or consent will be supplied when legally required.
